The 2023 Mazda MX-5, sportier than ever

The new model of the Mazda MX-5 won’t disappoint fans of the popular roadster. The little convertible with its undeniable vitality is back in action, retaining all the driving pleasure and other qualities that have enabled it to endure for more than three decades.

While there are rumors going around that the Mazda MX-5 will be available in an electric version, we’ll have to wait a few more years before we see it on our roads. Meanwhile, we can continue enjoying the qualities of this little sports car with more than a million models produced since its initial release in 1989.

The 2023 Mazda MX-5, still just as enjoyable

Mechanically, the 2023 Mazda MX-5 won’t feature any significant alterations. We know that the power of its four-cylinder engine rose to 181 hp several years ago, and countless drivers will confirm that it’s more than sufficient.

The Mazda MX-5 is, in fact, one of the lightest convertibles in the industry. With its inspiring drivability, combined with its precise steering, it doesn’t require any more power to put smiles on the faces of the two occupants. Manual and automatic transmissions will continue to be the norm.

While we know that a hybrid version is in the works, we’ll have to wait a little longer, as the 2023 Mazda MX-5 will retain its internal combustion engine with no apparent modifications.

A well-designed cockpit

Mazda’s passenger compartments are modern and very well constructed. The format of the new 2023 Mazda MX-5 retains its minimalism in all its glory, with just three dials and a screen affixed to the top of the dashboard, as is already the case. Mazda doesn’t like to distract passengers. The instrument cluster is analog, and there’s a huge speedometer right in the middle.

Another detail is that the RF hardtop and the soft-top versions will continue to be available, but new colors, notably a refined shade of beige, should be making an appearance.

With the 2023 Mazda MX-5, there’s no reason to change a winning formula. We’ll have to wait for a full redesign, anticipated for 2024. But why change the world’s best-selling convertible sports car in its class?
