The 2025 Mazda3 builds on the Kodo design language, offering a sleek, refined silhouette – even at a standstill, it exudes motion. Inside, premium materials, driver-oriented ergonomics, and an exceptionally quiet cabin make every drive enjoyable.
The 2025 Honda Civic focuses on a bold exterior style and a spacious interior, with a power sunroof and heated seats, though its material quality is more modest compared to Mazda.
While the Civic offers a good trunk and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, the slightly smaller Mazda 3 makes up for it with an intuitive layout, superior insulation, and a perceived build quality that’s evident from assembly.
The 2025 Mazda3 comes with the Skyactiv-G 2.5 L engine, producing 191 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque, available with a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission depending on the trim, plus cylinder deactivation technology. An optional Skyactiv-G 2.5 L turbo delivers 250 hp and a massive 320 lb-ft of torque, paired with i-Activ AWD.
The Civic offers a 2.0 L gasoline engine with 150 hp/133 lb-ft or a hybrid version with up to 200 hp and 232 lb-ft. However, its CVT transmission results in a less direct driving feel.

The Mazda 3 boasts exceptional combined fuel economy: 4.1 to 5.2 L/100 km depending on the engine and transmission, with CO₂ emissions starting at 102 g/km for the e-Skyactiv G version. The optional i-Activ AWD improves stability without compromising fuel efficiency thanks to its on-demand system.
The Civic Hybrid promises low fuel consumption, but exact figures (in L/100 km) are not posted on the Canadian site, making direct comparisons less reliable.
The Mazda3 offers better cornering stability thanks to G-Vectoring Control Plus, which reduces body roll and improves precision, especially in city driving or on winding roads. In contrast, the Civic focuses more on fuel savings, with less driving dynamism.
The Mazda3 includes, from the GX trim, an 8.8-inch touchscreen, wired Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, an 8-speaker audio system, radar cruise control, and manual A/C. Higher GS/GT trims offer a 10.25-inch display, navigation, sunroof, power seats, and a head-up display.
The Civic comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen, with a 9-inch version available, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless charging, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. These features are strong, but the base screen is smaller, and some functions are trim-dependent.

All Mazda3 versions include the comprehensive i-Activsense safety suite: blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward brake assist, lane-keeping assist, driver attention alert, auto high beams, pedestrian detection, reverse smart brake support, and more.
The Civic offers modern driver aids such as traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, and a multi-angle rearview camera, but its ADAS package is less extensive than Mazda’s, especially on the base model.
In GS/GT trims, the Mazda3 offers more standard features than the Civic Sport or base Hybrid, including advanced infotainment, AWD, and a more sophisticated driving experience at a comparable price.
Mazda enjoys a strong reputation for reliability in compact cars, while the new Civic Hybrid could have higher maintenance costs linked to hybrid systems. Mazda’s extended warranties also provide more long-term peace of mind.
The 2025 Mazda3 clearly stands out from the Honda Civic with its 2.5 L Skyactiv-G engine delivering between 191 and 250 hp, offering generous torque and a more dynamic drive than Honda’s 150–200 hp range. In terms of fuel economy, the Mazda3 impresses with combined averages as low as 4.1 L/100 km in its e-Skyactiv G version, while offering the option of i-Activ AWD, a smart all-wheel-drive system that enhances stability without hurting fuel efficiency.

On the safety front, the standard i-Activsense suite delivers a broader range of driver assistance features than the Civic. Inside, the Mazda3 also surpasses its rival with higher-quality materials, better sound insulation, and a more refined finish. Finally, its unlimited mileage warranty is a real advantage for drivers seeking long-term durability and peace of mind.
