Mazda Recognized by the IIHS for its Safety Features

The i-ACTIVSENSE safety technologies and SKYACTIV body have proven their mettle once again: the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named every one of the 2017 Mazda vehicle models a Top Safety Pick+, which is their highest safety rating. Every model of Mazda that was tested was equipped with the optional front collision prevention system and LED headlights.

With the goal of protecting the driver and passengers in the event of a collision, Mazda’s Proactive Safety concepts boast increasingly advanced safety technologies, notably Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) and Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), two features now available on the 2017 Mazda CX-5, earning it the top IIHS safety rating.

The IIHS evaluates crashworthiness through five safety tests: side impact, small overlap and moderate overlap front collisions, roof strength for rollover protection and head restraints for protection against neck injuries in rear impacts. The performance of the headlights and front crash prevention systems is also taken into consideration. Mazda is the only auto manufacturer among the 16 makes evaluated to have earned the Top Safety Pick+ rating for all of the 2017 models that have been tested to date.
