When it comes to vehicle safety, Mazda makes no compromises. That’s why the manufacturer was the biggest IIHS award winner in 2020. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is an association that’s internationally recognized for its frontal and side crash tests.
In the small car category, two Mazda models were named Top Safety Pick+, the highest safety rating the IIHS can give. We’re referring to the Mazda3 hatchback and the Mazda3 sedan. These two vehicles achieved nearly perfect scores in all of the crash tests. In the midsize car category, we find the Mazda6, which was also named a Top Safety Pick+.
The Mazda CX-3, the Mazda CX-5 and the all-new Mazda CX-30 were all named Top Safety Picks in the small SUV category, with the CX-3 and CX-5 earning Pick+ ratings. Meanwhile, the Mazda CX-9 was named a Top Safety Pick+ in the midsize SUV category.
So according to the frontal and side crash test results, Mazdas almost all across the boards are considered exceptionally safe vehicles for drivers and passengers. The IIHS also evaluates the roof strength of the vehicle, the effectiveness of the crash prevention systems (in vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian collisions) and the performance of the headlights (to ensure good night-time visibility).
The results obtained by Mazda vehicles aren’t surprising, considering that the manufacturer had six vehicles classified among the safest tested by the IIHS in 2019. Mazda reaffirms its commitment to do everything possible to ensure that drivers enjoy a driving experience that’s confident, comfortable and pleasant at all times.
